MISAKO & ROSEN is pleased to announce The forgiven ghost in me, London-based artist Maya Hewitt’s third solo exhibition with the gallery.
A contributor to the ongoing MISAKO & ROSEN “Happy Mind” exhibition series, Hewitt continues to explore possibilities for representation within a figurative mode; formerly more directly influenced by a particular strand of contemporary Japanese painting – Hewitt studied in Nagoya (2003) and developed a visual vocabulary at once distinct and conversant with Japanese painting from this region / time – her present practice is more deeply rooted in a contemporary London environs. Focusing her energies on experimenting with the physical and psychological properties within the space of a discrete work, the presently exhibited paintings are notable for their balance of material play and somber subjectivity. In addition to her gallery exhibitions, Hewitt has collaborated with Tokyo-based jewelry and clothing designer Yoshiyo Abbe of Petite Robe Noire.
