MISAKO & ROSEN is pleased to announce our presentation of “A red of blood and fire and some everyday works”, Sao Paul based artist Paulo Monteiro’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. A selection of Monteiro’s recent solo and group exhibitions includes : Mendes Wood DM, New York (2019),; Zeno X, Antwerp (2018); Hauser & Wirth, Los Angeles (2017); Pivô, São Paulo (2015); Luhring Augustine, New York (2015); Paintings on Paper, David Zwirner, New York (2014)

While Monteiro’s installation in the gallery continues to suggest a relationship to musical composition, particularly an implied relationship to Phillip Guston’s contemporary, the composer Morton Feldman, the paintings and sculptures in the present exhibition move away from formal and gestural sculptural concerns towards more affective painterly considerations. This semantic shift is suggested, as well, by the exhibition title, utilizing a language more open to narrative and suggestion and less devoted to formal concerns.

* Due to the effect of the new coronavirus spread of infection, the exhibition dates will be extended from April 19 – June 27, 2020.
