His idea was to show the reproduction on a wall directly opposite the Matisse work at the Stedelijk in Amsterdam, but that plan was abandoned when he developed an interest in the isolated image of the parakeet.
MISAKO & ROSEN, in collaboration with Galerie Saint Guillaume, are pleased to announce “Parakeets, Lemons, Flowers in a vase”, with work by Richard Aldrich, Daan van Golden and Henri Matisse. Presented in the CADAN (Contemporary Art Dealers Association Nippon) space in Otemachi, Tokyo, the exhibition aims to stage and develop an open narrative; bringing together a family of related works while introducing a formal variant.
Richard Aldrich (b.1975) lives and works in New York; he has participated in exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the National Museum of Art, Osaka, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Belgium.

Daan van Golden (1936-2017) is a foremost figure in the field of contemporary art, particularly from The Netherlands, where his work has been the subject of any number of major institutional exhibitions, most recently Daan van Golden : The Original presented by the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (2025). His work is in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Art, Osaka.

Henri Matisse (1869-1954) is a seminal figure of early 20th-century modernism; his work The Parakeet and the Mermaid (1952) serves as an absent point of departure for the present exhibition.
