Takashi Yasumura “I don’t expect too much”

2025.2.1 Sat - 3.2 Sun

Opening reception: 2.1 Sat 14:00 - 18:00

We are pleased to announce the presentation of our third solo exhibition with Tokyo-based photographer Takashi Yasumura. Yasumura’s work is presently on view in the exhibition BUTSUDORI at the Shiga Museum of Art and has previously been featured at institutions including the Tokyo Photographic Museum (2017), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2016) Gallery Alpha M, Tokyo  (2013) and the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (2004).

Yasumura’s most recent collection of photographs – from his ongoing series I don’t expect too much, first exhibited at MISAKO & ROSEN in 2019 – and new single channel film, Carry Mountains, resonate with the present moment; particularly with the incessant talk of Artificial Intelligence. Yasumura has throughout his career drawn upon the artifice particular to contemporary Japanese culture; the relationship between the natural and the highly manicured, order and play, color and form; the eye of the photographer and the lens of the camera. Whether a matter of circumstance – we, as an audience, are mare attuned to artifice in 2025 – or developments in his practice – or, most likely, both – these photographs read as highly contemporary; synthetic visions of an eye both deeply embedded and emergent.
