Maureen Gallace “October”

2024.10.26 Sat - 11.24 Sun

Opening reception : 10.26 Sat 14:00 - 18:00

We are pleased to announce October the gallery’s debut exhibition with New York / Connecticut based artist Maureen Gallace. A selection of Gallace’s solo institutional exhibitions includes MOMA PS1, New York (2017), The Art Institute of Chicago (2006), the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2004) and the Dallas Museum of Art (2003).

Gallace paints in an intimate scale; her palette reflects the places of her youth, which are a subject of ongoing concern, the lived-in landscape of New England. Throughout her practice, Gallace has deftly yet patiently balanced any number of preoccupations – philosophical and material – to create a body of painting exemplary in its presence. These six new works in oil on panel follow her presentation February 2024 at Gladstone Gallery, New York (February-March, 2024); and, like those recent paintings, were produced with the benefit of a workspace situated within the depicted landscape. This immersion in her surroundings has lent Gallace’s most recent endeavors an element of temporal dislocation, adding, contradictorily, an additional layer upon the act of painting-as-thinking that is the foundation of her work.
