MISAKO & ROSEN is pleased to announce our fifth exhibition with Miki Mochizuka – Distanciation. Miki Mochizuka was born (1974) and presently lives and works in Shizuoka, Japan.
Mozhizuka’s recent solo exhibitions include Shane Campbell, Chicago(2016), Quadrangle, MISAKO & ROSEN (2014) and The Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum, Shizuoka(2012-13). In 2014, Mochizuka exhibited an exhibition focusing on receent developments in Japanese painting , “The way of painting” at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery.
Miki Mochizuka typically structures his exhibitions around a relationship between painting and sculpture; In the present exhibition Mochizuka has chosen to include sculpture in the media of glass – while also for the first time in Japan exhibiting shaped canvas paintings. In foregrounding the experimental nature of his practice, Mochizuka aims to suggest painting and, more generally, art-making, as neither straightforward representation nor pure abstraction; rather, for Mochizuka it is the constant play between such elements and the viewer’s perception that characterizes his ongoing concerns. As Mochizuka’s experiments broaden so does the concentrated richness of the exhibited works.
